Night time: an artist book

Over the last year, Ana Laura Lopez de Torre has been researching the theme of night time in Southwark, through informal conversations, public events, walks and rides, home visits, and workshops with local residents of all kind of backgrounds. This research was part of her tenure as the holder of the Southwark Studio Residency, an award by Acme Studios, South London Gallery and Southwark Council. As a culmination of the residency, Ana Laura is inviting people connected to Southwark to get involved in the making of an artist book about Night Time, through workshops and an open call for contributions. The project is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and will be launched in September 2009, with an exhibition and public event at Camberwell Space (Camberwell College of Arts). Copies of the book will be freely distributed to project participants, local libraries, and key community and art contacts.

Do You Remember Olive Morris?

This project is an investigation into the extraordinary life and legacy of Olive Morris. Olive Morris, who died at 27, was a member of the Brixton Black Panther's Movement and a founding member of several Black women's organisations, being at the front of political struggles in the 1970s. The project was initiated in 2006 by artist Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre, and is the result of her collaboration with community activist Liz Obi, together with a group of women that meet monthly (ROC - Remembering Olive Collective). The project is supported by a partnership with Lambeth Archives, Gasworks, Black Cultural Archives, the British Library and Lambeth Women's Project, with funding from the Lottery Heritage Fund
